Lebanon, July 1 (Al Manar) Lebanese President Michel Sleiman said Wednesday that peace cannot be achieved without the Arab initiative, which guarantees the return of Palestinians, the implementation of resolution 1701 and Israel's withdrawal from Shebaa, Kfarshouba and northern part of Ghajar.
"The desired peace in the Middle East region should be based on the Arab initiative that gives back people their rights, particularly the right of return for Palestinian refugees," President Sleiman told China's special envoy to the Middle East Wu Sike.
The Lebanese president said that "such peace can only be achieved if Security Council resolution 1701 is implemented and if Israel withdraws from the occupied Shebaa farms area, Kfarshouba hills and the northern part of the village of Ghajar."
Sleiman also said the Israeli enemy should stop threats and end violations of Lebanese territories and spy work.
Wu, in his turn, congratulated Sleiman on the progress he made and hoped there would be more stability in the country.
The envoy stressed that his country backs the Arab peace initiative and is keen on implementation of international resolutions, particularly resolution 1701.
"The cause of Palestinian refugees is very important for the comprehensive settlement of the Middle East cause," Wu said.
He later met with the head of the caretaker government Fouad Saniora and discussed with him latest Middle East developments and how to push peace efforts forward.
